Some people live in areas where the closest neighbor is miles away. Others can see right into their neighbor’s houses, and their neighbors can see into theirs. We’ve all likely had the sensation of walking down some street, in some town, and looking in people’s windows. It’s not that we were staring, but simply looking around, when something terrible happened – a person in the home caught our eye.
It can feel humiliating but it can also lead us to think – shouldn’t they have had their curtains closed? We reached out to an etiquette expert to ask exactly that: Is it rude to leave your curtains open if people can see into your home? Is it rude to look in if someone has left their curtains open? As you might have guessed, our etiquette expert didn’t have us a black and white answer. Instead, there are a few factors in play here.
